Project Narrative
A residential structure designed to visually belong to the land and disappear within the tropical landscape.
EL Villa is a loft located in the middle of the jungle on a unique
coastal site in Chaloklum, where stone, soil, coconut trees, and sea
meet in one dense natural setting.
The intention was to create a building that feels connected to the
earth, both visually and materially, and hides between the trees as
part of the existing texture. A double facade separates the thermal
performance of the interior from the exterior expression: full glass
openings face the sea and nature, while a metal outer skin creates a
solid presence, almost like a stone volume emerging from the ground.
Inside, the home behaves differently from its exterior shell, as if
the living space has been carved from within the mass. Lightweight
construction systems, a reduced footprint, and minimal contact with
the landscape support a forward-looking approach to building in a
sensitive natural environment.
